The BCGHS will be working this Thursday, October 25, 2018, prepare The Blount Journal Fall 2018 issue for mailing. It will be 76 pages (80 including the covers). The feature article is Blount County's Fallen Police Officers by Timothy Walker. He also wrote an article about the signing Von Trapp family visiting Maryville in the 1930s.
Past BCGHS President, J. R. Young, wrote an article about the abandoned Wear/Weir cemetery. There is new information on Bakers Creek Cemetery as a followup to our Annual Picnic to Bakers Creek Church.
New resources for locating genealogical and historical information is highlighted in several articles. Abstracted genealogy data of Black families in Blount County starts in this journal and will continue in the next few journals. Native American research in online records is another article.
An update on death certificate books for Blount County is given with an explanation of terms used in death certificates. Elaine Russell's article explains genealogy terminology. Locating places within Blount County and other Tennessee counties is the subject of this issue's "Look What I Found at the Blount County Public Library!" series.
Updates on Blount Countians, family genealogies (Anderson, Dalton, Bean, Kerr, Willocks, Wear/Weir), and more are in the Fall 2018 journal. It is coming to your mailbox soon if you are a current member. If not a member, information about joining is available on this website.
