Searching for other researchers of surname Cartwright. This Cartwright line, originally from southern Maryland, relates to Tippett through the marriage of Jane Lee Tippett to Matthew Cartwright following the death of her first husband, Philip Tippett. Jane Tippett's children with Phillip included Chloe, Erastus and Erasmus. Chloe Lee Tippett, from southern Maryland via North Carolina, married Solomon Asbell sometime in the 1790s (location unknown); and had a daughter, Mary, born in TN in 1797. Unknown if Mary was the first child. (Mary's gravestone is my avatar photo.) Looking for others interested in these surnames. Barnes is a nearby neighbor to Asbell and Tippett based on Blount land records of the first decade plus of the 19th century, and may have married one of the Cartwright women.

Found at the courthouse in Maryville: a power of attorney (dated October 1832) associated with the sale of 156 acres in Blount County. Power of attorney is needed because the owner, Thomas Cartwright, is 'now deceased', and two of his children will act on behalf of all on the sale of their father's land. Cartwright first names found on the document are: John N, Matthew, James, and Thomas.
Updated after 2+ years: An older daughter of Solomon and Chloe Lee Tippett Asbell has been identified. Mary was born in April 1797 in TN so the couple's meeting and marriage has now moved forward several years from the 'around 1800' posted earlier.
