This next Spring 2017 Journal will be the largest Blount Journal ever printed and we have more scans and photographs than ever.
There are two specific family genealogy articles (Kidd and Thompson) and three more articles with genealogy mixed in the subject matter. Two more articles will be concerning genealogy research.
Historically, there are many anniversaries this year that will be the subject of several of the articles. There are two articles about the WWI soldiers of Maryville. Exciting news is included about a large index of WWI soldiers that are any way connected to Blount County. This will be posted on this website when it is finished. In the meantime, you can see a sample of the index with a bibliography in the Spring 2017 journal.
A few articles are written in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Blount County Schools. With this is an index of all Blount County Schools that could be identified from 1786 to the present. Some schools are listed only by name, so I hope so of you can supply more information. The schools list will be kept online and regularly updated. A partial student listing indexed by school is included with a case study on how to use the information in genealogy research.
There will be a summary of Don Wells' lecture on "Trail of Tears," recently sponsored by the BCGHS. This covers removal the five civilized tribes.
Blount County's Black Mayor (2nd Black Mayor in Tennessee) and Newspaper Publisher, W. B. Scott, will be the subject of a two-part article with newly discovered information.
I could tell you more but I need to get back to getting the journal ready for the printer. Hope you enjoy the reading.
