I need some guidance in interpreting this Y-111 match on FamilyTreeDNA (click to enlarge). My closest match, with a genetic distance of 3, does not have my Anderson surname.
Some of you Blount County Historians may recognize a possible connection to the Anderson and Cunningham surnames. Prior to county-hood, there was an Isaac Anderson who was among the militia sent in the summer of 1788 to garrison Houston's Station in southern Blount County to provide some protection for the inhabitants of the area from Indian raids. On August 8th, a party of 31 men under Captain John Fain were sent out to scout and reconnoiter the area. They crossed the (Little) Tennessee River about eight or nine miles distant, and came to the Indian town called Citico, which had been recently evacuated by the Indians. They stopped to gather apples in what they thought was an abandoned apple orchard. Suddenly they were set upon on all sides by a body of Indians. The Indians had taken possession of the ford and as the whites attempted to escape by swimming across the river, many were slaughtered in the water. Isaac "of Citico Creek" Anderson died on that day. Isaac Anderson was married to Margaret Cunningham. My DNA question (with Blount County connection) is that, based on a Y-DNA test, a Y-111 match that is this close to me with a Cunningham surname - what should be my next step for identifying this match?
I have seen many trees that align Isaac and Margaret Cunningham Anderson as parents to my 4th GGF, James Anderson, but without any record of evidence.Attachments:
