Good queries are: Clear—Specific—Simple—Concise “Your goal is to write a query that can be read quickly and easily, and to get a result. You can best achieve this by keeping it clear, specific, simple, and concise.” National Genealogical Society (https://www.ngsgenealogy.org/cs/writing_a_query)
The Birmingham Genealogy Society ( bgsal.org/writing-a-successful-query/) states queries can use the “shotgun” approach that says something like this: “Searching for HENRY in PA.” Or, you can use the “laser beam” approach that is specific and is more likely to get a response. You need a name or surname, specific place (must have a Blount County connection to be placed in the BCGHS Forum), and date or date range. If you are not specific about what you want, you will NOT get a response. For more information on how to write a good query, see www.cyndislist.com/queries/how-to/. I hope this information is helpful and you receive a response to your posting. April Wegner, Editor of The Blount Journal
